Design- The 'Y' in the Samsung Galaxy Y stands for Young and looking at the phone's design and physical execution, Samsung has targeted the younger customers such as teenagers. It sports a 3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen.You have the standard Samsung Home button and the soft Menu and Back keys. At the back is a very basic 2 megapixel camera and the loudspeaker.
Build Quality- The Galaxy Y sports an all plastic build which makes it very light and strong. The back panel is also made of plastic which is textured like snake skin which makes it easy to grip. The Y will definitely take a lot of beating before giving way to the elements.
Functionality- It is powered by a 830 MHz ARM v6 processor which is the best for smartphones in its price range. And................Surprise!!! The Y runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread which when coupled with the TouchWiz UI is a pleasure to use. The Web browsing experience is great, it supports only HTML(no Flash) but it gets the job done seamlessly well. You have the Android Market at your disposal where you can download thousands of great apps. The camera is well, pretty sub-standard and can be only used if you're a happy snapper(you can't get much from 2 megapixels). Unfortunately, due to the the poor screen resolution(240x320), you end up with the screen looking quite grainy(we could actually see the individual pixels). We expected a better screen resolution.
Pricing- The Samsung Galaxy Y's price is one that we would love to shout out to the world- just $145(USD). With so many features and a rock-bottom price tag. This phone will definitely sell like hot cakes.
The Verdict- Overall, with a fast processor, the power of Android and the really low price, the Samsung Galaxy Y is definitely a replacement for an MP3 Player or somebody's first smartphone. So is you crave a smartphone but don't want to spend too much for one, get the Samsung Galaxy Y. Except for the camera and screen resolution, we can assure you that the Y will never disappoint you.
