What you see here is the World's most powerful smartphone. And I'm here to see whether it really stands up to its tag.I will critically analyze the ATRIX on the on the basis of design, build quality, functionality and pricing to see whether it really lives up to the title. After the analysis I will give my final verdict.
Design- There's nothing much to talk about the design of the Motorola ATRIX 4G; it's designed like most other 4G compliant smartphones(we thought it was a bit fat, width-wise). However, what's really eye-catching is the external hardware on the device. You have a 4 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and four capacitive navigation buttons namely Menu, Home, Back and Search. You have a volume rocker on the right side and a dock port on the left for the Motorola laptop(sold separately). There's a VGA front facing camera at the front and a 5 MP autofocus camera with dual-LED flash. The coolest part of the device is the biometric fingerprint scanner; the ATRIX by far, is the first phone to sport one. It's nothing major, but it gives the added comfort of security.
Build Quality- Since the ATRIX is quite bulky, it is able to handle minor bumps and falls. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla glass, which will ensure that the screen doesn't get scratched when dropped from a height, face down. The back panel is made of steel, so you've got a very durable smartphone.
Functionality- The Motorola ATRIX 4G is a powerhouse. It's fueled by a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor and runs on Android 2.2 FroYo. It functions on the basis of the MOTOBLUR user interface; you can customize homescreens with the stock Android widgets as well as the Motorola Live Widgets. The web browser supports HTML and Adobe Flash. Web pages load quickly and scrolling through them is joy. The biometric scanner works well and can be used to unlock the phone too(instead of pressing the dedicated power button). The 5 MP camera at the back is amazing; pictures appear clean and crisp. It can also shoot video at 720p@30fps. Over that, you have 16 Gigabytes of internal memory and a microphone for noise cancellation. The Motorola laptop(sold separately) acts as a dock for the phone to exchange multimedia content. You can also view multimedia on a TV by connecting the device via the mini HDMI port. Once connected, the phone acts as a trackpad and can be used to navigate and surf through various in-device files such as movies, audio clips and images.
Pricing- With its wide range of features, we felt our wallets tremble. But to our amazement, the ATRIX is priced at just $330(USD). You can also purchase it via cell carriers such as at&t for just $200(USD). Nothing more to be said, you have to go for this device if you want nothing else but pure performance. The laptop dock comes at a price of $200(USD).
The Verdict- Overall, the ATRIX is a phone that can seriously shake the markets of other major companies such as Apple Inc. and Samsung. It looks decent, packs some really powerful hardware and not to forget has an adorable price tag. You can also upgrade the ATRIX to the more respected Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. If you're a Motorola fan, don't hesitate to buy this device.
